Director Catherine Owens is now partnering with Rabbit on 3D projects.
New York and L.A.-based production company Rabbit is now representing the award-winning director and artist Catherine Owens for special projects across all media, with an emphasis on 3D.  Owens is joining a company that’s at the forefront of 3D technology, film/TV and commercial production, having recently produced a two-spot campaign for Samsung that was shot in stereoscopic 3D.

A longtime collaborator with U2 who has provided video and filmed content for the band’s last five world tours, Owens co-directed “U23D,” documenting their 2006 Vertigo tour in South America; The New York Times hailed it as “the first IMAX movie that deserves to be called a work of art.”

Owens recently appeared on a panel at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn theatre in L.A. to discuss the making of the film.  The event was the last in a three-part lecture series titled “Getting Perspective III: Exploring the Craft of 3D Movie Technology,” which explored 3D techniques and their rapidly expanding use in filmmaking.  Also speaking on the panel were “U23D” Director of 3D Photography Peter Anderson and Editor Olivier Wicki of BlueRock.

In April of this year, Owens traveled to India to film a 3D documentary on Kumbh Mela, the largest spiritual gathering on the planet.  Produced by Rabbit, this documentary is the first of its kind filmed in the 3D format.  The Kumbh Mela event takes place once every 12 years; Owens’ film will combine 3D stereoscopic imagery with 3D animation and 2D–3D designed conversion.

Owens is currently in development on a 3D narrative feature film based on an Oscar Wilde fairytale.
